My Hot Spice Morning Tea

by Karen Barron

My fourth drink in the morning is Hot Spice Tea. I add unflavored Half-n-Half Creamer and one teaspoon of Raw Sugar. You could also drink it without adding anything. You could make it in a coffee pot, or boil it on the stove then strain it before using. You could make it in a small 5 Cup, or a standard 12 Cup coffee maker.

Ingredients for a 12 Cup Coffee Pot. Put the dry powders in the coffee filter then add the Tea last:

  • Turmeric - 1 teaspoon

  • Black Pepper - a dash

  • Cayenne or Chili Pepper - a dash

  • Cloves - 1/2 teaspoon

  • Paprika 1/2 teaspoon

  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon

  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon

  • Green Tea Leaves or Indian Black Tea - 2 tablespoons or more - The choice is yours.

Optional: Sometimes, I boil the Tea on the stove instead of making it in my coffee pot. I replace the dry Ginger powder with Fresh Ginger. I cut the Ginger in small pieces and pound it with my kitchen hammer. Afterwards, I put it in a pot of water and boil it with the rest of the ingredients.

My Breakfast Green Smoothie

by Karen Barron

I know it's important to get something in my stomach when I get up, but my mornings are very busy. I have too many things to do and to make sure that I don't start feeling weak from lack of NOTHING in my stomach, I started making smoothies in advance. My refrigerator looks like a vending machine without the coin slot and the high price. As I swiftly pass through my kitchen, I grab a premade smoothie.

Planning ahead makes my life a little easier. I bought a few cases of Mason Jars - 4 and 8 ounces for my morning drinks. I also use my Mason Jars for my Lunch and Drinks On-The-Go. It's time consuming, but the end results are worth it.

I'll never forget the day I was out working beyond the expected time. I thought I was only going to be away from home for a short period. I didn't bring a lunch and I forgot to restock the water I kept in my vehicle. After many hours out in the field working without nourishment, I felt lightheaded and my throat was extremely dry. Worse than that - my insides felt completely dry. No lubricant. It felt like I was shriveling up like a prune. It was even hard to breathe. It's hard to explain what it felt like because I don't recall ever feeling that way before. Now, I always make sure I have water and non-perishable snacks in my trunk, just in case my day doesn't go as I planned. Plus it's good to be prepared in case of an emergency.

My Smoothie ingredients are determined by what I have. Occasionally, I'm given a lot of fruit, so I add it to my smoothie then it doesn't get wasted. I added Kiwifruit, Pears and Apples for several weeks to my Smoothies until I ran out. Kiwifruit was a tasty addition. Sometimes, I run out of some ingredients and I use different ones. There are no exact ingredients and no exact amounts of most of the items - It's up to you. It's your smoothie, not mines.

My Basic Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

  • Organic Almond Milk

  • Two Bananas, or One if I add other fruit

  • A few Scoops of Organic Chia Seeds

  • A Spoon of Turmeric Powder or Fresh Root

  • Some Fresh Ginger Root

  • A Little Spirulina Powder

  • A Little Chlorella Powder

  • A Little Barley Grass Powder

  • A Dash of Organic Black Pepper

  • A Dash of Cayenne or Chili Pepper Powder

I blend it up, pour it into several Mason Jars and put it in the refrigerator, so it's ready to grab as I pass through my kitchen on the start of my busy day.

Hibiscus Tea

by Karen Barron

I drink Hibiscus tea daily. After learning about possible benefits several years ago - it is now one of my favorite drinks. Surprisingly, Hibiscus Tea was in front of my eyes at Taco shops. I assumed it was punch, but it was actually a drink with benefits.

Article and References below

Hibiscus tea is a herbal tea made as an infusion from crimson or deep magenta-colored calyces of the roselle flower. It is consumed both hot and cold. It has a tart, cranberry-like flavor.

The drink is sometimes called roselle (a name for the flower) or rosella (Australia); sorrel in Jamaica, Belize, Barbados, Guyana, Dominica, and Trinidad and Tobago; red sorrel in the wider Caribbean; and agua/rosa de Jamaica or simply Jamaica in the United States, Mexico, and Central America. It is also known as zobo or bissap in west African countries like Nigeria.
